The Chief Privacy Officer and Archivist supports Ontario government ministries and other provincial and local public sector organizations that have responsibilities under two laws:

These laws provide the right of access to information subject to certain limited exemptions, and provide rules for the protection of personal information collected by the specified public sector organizations.

Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner/Ontario (IPC) - The IPA and the IPC are two separate organizations with very distinct roles. The IPC is an independent oversight body responsible for educating the public concerning their rights under FIPPA and MFIPPA, and ensuring that organizations fulfill their obligations under these Acts.
