Solicitors
Solicitor members of the Law Society of Upper Canada have the option of being appointed a Notary Public after admission to the Ontario Bar. This is a lifetime appointment upon payment of a one-time fee.
Please note that ONLY lawyers of Ontario and working in Ontario may apply.

Step 2 - Specimens
Once the appointment certificate is issued, you will be asked to provide a specimen of your embossed seal and signature to ODS. This will be used by ODS to authenticate any future documents that you notarize.

*** If you are an employee of any level of government (federal, provincial or municipal), at time of application, there is no fee for becoming a Notary Public. You are required to include a proof of employment letter with your application form. This letter must be printed on government letterhead and signed by your manager or director. This applies to both solicitors and non-solicitors applications.
