Construction company convicted under Consumer Protection Act

Construction company convicted under Consumer Protection Act

BRAMPTON -- Green Valley Construction was convicted yesterday of one offence under the Consumer Protection Act for failing to provide an adequate form of contract.

A consumer entered into a contract with Green Valley Construction for the construction of a rear addition to the consumer's house. The contract provided by Green Valley Construction did not include:

  • Notice of the consumer's right to cancel within 10 days;
  • A breakdown of which portion of the total cost was attributed to each service; or
  • The delivery date for goods and services.

These details are required for contracts negotiated at a consumer's house by the Consumer Protection Act.

The consumer made a deposit; however, construction never began.

The Provincial Offences Court in Brampton fined Green Valley Construction $2,000. For more information, please visit our site.

The law provides 30 days to commence an appeal.

Archives of Ontario’s inaugural exhibit

On September 15, The Honourable Harinder S. Takhar, Minister of Government Services, launched the Archives of Ontario’s inaugural exhibit in its facilities, which opened at York University this spring.  The exhibit, Ontario – On the Map, demonstrates how the purpose of early provincial maps changed from tools for settlement and exploitation of resources to tools for understanding the evolving cultural and physical landscape of Ontario.
