
Dr. Shafiq Qaadri , MD, Member of Provincial Parliament (Etobicoke North)
Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Government Services
First elected to the Ontario Legislature in 2003, Dr. Shafiq Qaadri is one of this country’s leading advocates for strong public healthcare and education as both a medical doctor and Member of Provincial Parliament for Etobicoke North.
Dr. Qaadri graduated from Upper Canada College in 1983, and from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1988. During his academic career, he won several scholarships including an English-Speaking Union Essay Prize to Oxford University and a Medical Research Council Scholarship in Clinical Neurosurgery.
After his first election in 2003, Dr. Qaadri was appointed Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Children’s Services. In 2006 he was appointed Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health Promotion.
On October 10 2007, Qaadri was easily reelected to his second term in the Ontario Provincial Parliament. In addition, he has also served on several committees including justice policy, public accounts and government agencies. After being elected for a third time on October 6, 2011, Dr. Qaadri was appointed to Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Government Services.
As a renowned physician, Dr. Qaadri has published and presented more than 700 articles on a variety of medical topics. He is one of this country’s most sought after medical experts, appearing on more 1000 different radio and television shows to express his opinion on several issues that pertain to the healthcare system. His book “The Testosterone Factor: A Practical Guide to Improving Vitality and Virility, Naturally” on the subject of andropause (described as the male equivalent of menopause), was released in 2006.
He was the keynote speaker at the 40th annual convention of the Islamic Medical Association of North America in July 2007.
Dr. Qaadri and his wife live in Toronto with their two children.
